The GRAMMY Museum welcomed Caroline Polachek to the Museum’s Clive Davis Theater for an evening including a conversation moderated by GRAMMY-winning producer Daniel Nigro about her album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, her creative process, and more.
Caroline Polachek is a singularity: One of music’s most continually inventive pop auteurs, a shimmering ribbon of a voice that’s immediately recognizable, a self-releasing independent artist, a crate digger, and a lifelong headphone listener who writes songs that literally fill stadiums.
She first came to prominence as frontwoman for the beloved Brooklyn band Chairlift, who released three albums on Columbia Records. In 2019, she self-released her first album as Caroline Polachek--the critically-acclaimed Pang. Off the back of that album's success, she went from playing 300-capacity venues to selling out The Greek Theatre, playing prime slots at festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, and Primavera and supporting Dua Lipa on the Future Nostalgia tour.
Her album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is Polachek at her most physical, turning up the temperature and trading tight narrative for visceral tone-poetry. Desire is a constellation of big, potent songs that hit immediately then stay with you and continue to echo and bloom. It’s a canvas with earth and water and blood-toned colors splashed against it. Desire is an instant classic and is already one of the best reviewed albums of all time on Metacritic. Her wildly successful The Spiraling Tour has sold out shows at some of the most iconic venues in the world including Radio City Music Hall, The Shrine Auditorium, and Hammersmith Apollo in London.
