In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, the GRAMMY Museum welcomed thủy to the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Clive Davis Theater for an evening including a conversation about her creative process with her project, don’t miss me too much, her career, her hit song, girls like me don’t cry, and more, with a performance to follow.
Bay Area, native recording artist and songwriter thủy, setting on herself apart in today’s pop R&B scene. With over 500 million career streams and praise from premier publications including Billboard, Rolling Stone, Paper, Nylon, Vibe, Harper’s Bazaar, Wonderland, Flaunt, and NBC, the Vietnamese American starlet is the artist to watch. Marked by her celestial vocals, hit-making penmanship and modern R&B stylings, thủy has carved out a space for herself both within and beyond the community of self-made Asian-American musical artists that have emerged in the streaming era. Inspired by early 2000s pop and R&B idols Britney Spears, Brandy and Mariah Carey, thủy emerged onto the mainstream stage with her EP “i hope you see this” and it’s breakout single, ‘universe.’ Her sophomore EP, girls “like me don’t cry,” then catapulted her into global recognition. The title track became a cultural lexicon and won the hearts of fans worldwide. It was named one of the top 10 global songs on TikTok in 2023.
In addition to chart topping hits, thủy continues to prove her star power with sold out international tours, major festival, billings, and collaborations with leading brands. Having been named People Magazine’s, #1 Emerging Artists to Watch in 2022 and landing a spot on the industry coveted Vevo DSCVR’s Artist to Watch list for 2023, thủy continues to cement her name on the global stage. Now, pushing herself sonically and taking new risks, thủy’s EP “don’t miss me too much,” gives a glimpse into the new era of thủy.
