The GRAMMY Museum welcomed GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Matt B to the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Clive Davis Theater for a special screening, conversation, and live performance celebrating his latest project, ALKEBULAN II. The evening offered fans an immersive storytelling experience centered around Matt B’s African-inspired album and companion film—an ambitious, soul-stirring exploration of ancestry, identity, and artistic legacy.
Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, ALKEBULAN II expands on the sonic and thematic world of Matt B’s original ALKEBULAN album, blending orchestral grandeur with traditional African percussion and spoken word. The film, shot on location in Namibia and South Africa and directed by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Angela V. Benson alongside Matt B, was created entirely with an all-African production team and spotlights rising talents in music, fashion, and storytelling across the continent.
Moderated by Schyler O'Neal, Sr. Manager of Education & Community Engagement at the GRAMMY Museum, the program included a panel discussion with the filmmakers and creatives behind the project, highlighting the personal and cultural inspirations that shaped the work. The night concluded with a moving live performance by Matt B, bringing the themes of resilience, remembrance, and empowerment full circle in front of a captivated audience.
