On February 10, 2016, the GRAMMY Museum celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Hawaiian music and kicked off Hawaii's Mele Mei annual tradition with ‘Mele Mei In L.A.: Honoring The Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Tradition’. The intimate concert in the Clive Davis Theater featured performances by Hawaiian artists including GRAMMY winner Charles Brotman, GRAMMY nominees Amy Hanaiali'i, Raiatea Helm and Jeff Peterson, and Pali, Kawika Kahiapo, Bobby Moderow Jr. of Maunalua, and Makana. Taking place the week prior to the 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards, the special event was held in conjunction with the opening of the Museum's exhibit, Kī Hōʻalu: Honoring the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Tradition. Re-visit the exhibit virtually on our website here: https://grammymuseum.org/museum-at-home/revisit-the-music-of-hawaii/
The exhibit and coinciding Mele Mei In L.A. event were made possible by the support of Hawai'i Tourism Authority, Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts, Outrigger Resorts, Travelocity, Waikiki Beach Walk, and Yasuda International.
